Author's Description:

Other than the bride’s ensemble, the hat Princess Beatrice wore to the recent royal wedding of her cousin, Prince William, to Kate Middleton, was probably the most talked-about accessory of the day. Designed by milliner Phillip Treacy, I wondered if it was a take on the bow that sits atop the Middleton family’s new coat of arms — or represented the same thing — an unmarried woman. Maybe Beatrice is a fan of Cindy Lou Who, or perhaps she just thrives on attention. Whatever. At least the hat is being put to good use, because Beatrice is auctioning it, and the proceeds will benefit two different charities, UNICEF UK and Children in Crisis. There were 43 bids as of Sunday, May 15th, with a current price of $17,789 (U.S. dollars). Oh, you can use your Paypal account to purchase the hat if yours is the winning bid, but it’ll take 24 hours to become pre-approved. Bidding ends on May 22.
